Mental Health Services Wollongong: Nurse Practitioner-Led, No Waitlist

Mindora Health provides mental health services in Wollongong and across the Illawarra. Our care is led by an AHPRA-endorsed Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. If you’re looking for mental health services Wollongong people can get into without a months-long wait, we offer comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, investigations, personalised treatment planning, medication management, supervised deprescribing, and reports for the NDIS, DCJ Housing and Centrelink. There’s no waitlist and no referral required.

A standard GP consultation is rarely long enough to work through a complex mental health concern. We offer the next step. Each year you have a 60-minute in-person comprehensive assessment with a specialist mental health clinician who can assess, diagnose, order investigations and prescribe. Between those visits, telehealth follow-ups let us monitor your progress and adjust your care as clinically indicated.

Still have you any qustion?

(01) Do I need a referral to use your mental health services?
No. You can book your initial assessment online without a referral. We do encourage a referral letter from your GP, because it helps us understand your history and coordinate your care. With your consent, we'll send your GP a summary after your assessment and keep them updated as your treatment plan changes, so everyone is working from the same plan.
(02) Is there really no waitlist?
That's right, we don't keep a waiting list. When you book online, you choose from the next available appointment times for your initial in-person assessment. How soon you're seen depends on availability that week, but you won't be put on a list or have to wait for a referral to be processed before your first appointment.
(03) Where is Mindora Health located?
Initial assessments are held in person at our consulting rooms in [SUBURB], Wollongong. We see people from across the Illawarra, including Shellharbour, Kiama and the northern suburbs. After your first visit, most follow-up appointments are by secure video or phone, so you only need to come in once a year for your annual reassessment.
(04) Can a Nurse Practitioner diagnose and prescribe medication?
Yes. An AHPRA-endorsed Mental Health Nurse Practitioner can assess, diagnose, order investigations and prescribe medication within their scope of practice. We only prescribe medication when it's clinically indicated, and only after we've talked through the options with you, including approaches that don't involve medication. If you need care outside our scope, we'll help arrange the right referral.
(05) Can my first appointment be by telehealth?
No. Your initial comprehensive assessment is always in person. Meeting face to face lets us assess you thoroughly and build a strong working relationship from the start. After that, your follow-up appointments can be by video or phone, and you return in person once a year so we can fully review your treatment plan.
(06) How much does it cost, and does Medicare cover it?
The initial 60-minute comprehensive assessment costs $250, and eligible patients receive a Medicare rebate. Follow-up appointments range from $50 to $150 depending on length, and eligible appointments also attract a rebate. Fees are charged after your appointment. Our fees page lists each appointment type with its Medicare item number and current rebate amount.
(07) Is Mindora Health a crisis or emergency service?
No. We're a planned-care clinic, so we can't respond to emergencies or urgent situations. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000. For urgent mental health support any time of day or night, call the NSW Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
